Notes from the Studio

2018 was a busy year!

In June, I attended the Oil Painters of America (OPA) National Exhibit in Steamboat Springs and was honored to win an Award of Excellence in the Plein Air competition. I was accepted into the American Impressionist Society (AIS) National Exhibition with my painting, 7 O’Clock Shadows

Workshops: I attended the Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA) Master workshop in Atlanta last spring and had the honor to learn and hobnob with the best artists in the country: Jill Carver, Len Chmiel, Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith and Dan Young. What a treat!

Kathryn Stats’ and Jill Carver’s workshops in Sun Valley. We had 30 students from all over the country and Canada - mostly professional artists. Both Kathryn and Jill are amazing teachers and people. We painted on location in some beautiful spots here in paradise and had some amazing lectures, slide shows and fun dinners.

In the Fall, Lori McNee invited me to be her “Guest Artist” for her two workshops in Monet’s Gardens (Vernon, France) and in Tuscany (Lucca). It was an amazing experience and we topped off both workshops with museum-binging in Paris and Tuscany. Can never get enough of looking at art up close and personal! Our hosts were the best and provided lodging, great food and transportation to various painting sites. Thank you, Lori!

2019 is shaping up to be a productive year. I decided to hand over the reins of the Sun Valley workshops to a former student and great painter, Sherri Carter. She is organizing two workshops in 2019: Jill Carver and the other TBD. You can get in touch with her at sherricarterfineart@gmail.com

I am participating in an invitational workshop by Jill Carver in New Zealand in March for two weeks. I have never been so I am thrilled to see and paint the South Island and to spend time with Jill and a group of fantastic artists. I’ll keep you posted and will post photos on my Facebook Page: (link to Facebook page)

Over the next few months I am also working a couple commissions - I am really enjoying doing these so if you are interested please email me at kmriedinger@gmail.com.  That is, after my studio clean-up - the roof leaked during a massive snowstorm and I had to move every frame and all art supplies from my storeroom and office…. and into my workspace! Wish me luck!
