Notes from the Studio

Happy Spring! After a long winter, looking forward to getting outside and painting. I did venture out for some winter plein air sessions - hand warmer in my hat, standing on cardboard and staying close to my car (in case a moose comes visiting, which has been a problem…and you don’t want to mess with a moose!)

I jumped into two mentoring opportunities this year: studying the foundational principles with Matt Smith and color theory with Skip Whitcomb. Transformative information and I am learning so much from these masters. Please look them up and study their work through Tucson Academy.

July 7-18 I will be participating in Plein Air Easton - the painting below was painted on location last summer and it was an amazing opportunity. The second painting, Summer Breeze, was sold to the owners of the beautiful property I was lucky enough to be assigned to.

September 6-12 I head to the other coast to participate in Sonoma Plein Air. Last week, I spent 5 days scoping out Sonoma to find the good painting spots. Thanks to Paul Kratter, another artist in the event, he pointed me to some choice locations. So thrilled to have been accepted into both competitions. It’s new for me, working under time constraints, with spectators so wish me luck!

I was honored to be asked to represent Idaho and Colorado in the Mary Williams Fine Arts “America the Beautiful” show which features the top artists from 50 states. Amazing paintings in this collection - check it out by clicking the logo.
